A smaller version of the Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) with slightly darker purple flowers, this milkweed is a great choice for hosting pollinators while offering a bit more of a showy display. It is drought tolerant once established, but will require extra water if placed in full sun. It is a host for Monarch caterpillars and provides nectar for many other pollinators that include butterflies, moths, and bees.
